Level 1 Officials Clinic, and officiating at ABLT and RU Fast

Greetings All,

ABLT is just around the corner, and I’m happy to announce that we will be hosting a Level 1 Officials Clinic on the friday before ABLT. The time and place for the clinic is:

University of Calgary Kinesiology Building (directly attached to the Oval)
Room: KNB 131
From 6:00pm until it is done (roughly 9:30-10:00pm)

The clinic is being run by Bruce Thorpe, a senior referee and a great guy to get tips from on how speed skating works. I’d encourage anyone to take the course, even if they don’t have a deep interest in officiating. It teaches you a lot about the sport, and allows you to contribute in a very important way, even if you only do it casually.

If you attend the clinic, I’d be very happy to have you help out at the ABLT long track meet, and there will be another opportunity where we have an even larger need for officials when RU Fast comes up, our annual short track competition. In many instances other meets around the province that you may be attending can use additional officials too.

I really hope to see you all there, and would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Please RSVP to me at [email protected]calgaryspeedskating.ca if you will be attending, or if you have questions. All are welcome, from all clubs, and really anyone with an interest in officiating or an interest in learning more about the great sport of speed skating.

Blair Toblan,
VC Officials,
