November Update from the Board

CSSA Store: We have teamed up with our supplier so you may purchase additional CSSA gear – can make great gift ideas too!  Note that all CSSA skaters registered in the 2018-19 season will be receiving a free blue hoodie in late October as part of their membership (do not purchase one through the CSSA store):  https://stores.inksoft.com/calgary_speed_skating/shop/home
Strategic Plan: The Board recently completed their strategic plan following sessions during the summer and fall. CSSA Strategic Plan
Short-Track World Cup November 2 – 4: It was great to see so many skaters, coaches and families out at the event, cheering their favorite skaters. Following a contest by the Alberta Speed Skating Association, a few lucky CSSA athletes were even invited to help present medals to the winners. The Oval also made beautiful postcards promoting Calgary speed skating clubs that were distributed to many attendees.
Promo video: A promotional video launched at the end of October. It is being promoted on the CSSA website and through social media. It has been seen as far as Australia! Watch it!
Officials clinic: 18 club members achieved their Level 1 officials’ status in late October. Great job!
Upcoming November seminars for skaters and parents:: We are working finalizing details on a nutrition seminar with Kelly-Anne Erdman, dietician to numerous Olympic teams, and high performance habits and mindsets with Jessica Zelinka, winner of many international medals in Athletics.
Sunday December 9 Santa Skate: A Santa Skate will be held on Sunday December 9, from 10:20 to 11:40 AM on the long-track ice. We will have a festive pot-luck afterwards.
Vote Calgary 2026 on Tuesday November 13:: Advance polling is also available on Tuesday and Wednesday November 6 and 7.
Special General Meeting: An SGM will be held on November 13th to review and approve the financial statements for the year ended June 30, 2018 and review by-law changes. We will also take the opportunity to answer some questions from parents following the meeting.
Mini-meets: On Sunday October 21, a mock mini-meet was held with the L2SS group followed by snacks with the President, Technical Director and coach. On October 24, a larger mini-meet was held with approximately 70 participants, again with snacks afterwards. Both events were highly successful with both parents and kids having a terrific time.
Rocky Mountain House & Red Deer meets: CSSA athletes had great results and many personal bests participating in those meets. Congratulations to all!
